✅ Back to School, Back to Goals
🎁Help your kids set meaningful goals this school year—at home, at school, and in Tae Kwon Do.
It was the first week of school last year. A mom in South Jordan noticed her 9-year-old seemed extra quiet at breakfast. When she asked why, her daughter said:
“Everyone’s good at something already. I don’t know what I’m good at.”
Instead of replying right away, the mom reached for a notebook and wrote on the top of the page:
“My Goals for 5th Grade”
They wrote just three things together:
Ask one question a week in class
Make one new friend
Finish reading a book without quitting
Nothing big. But it gave her daughter something to focus on—something she could build confidence from, one step at a time.
🏠 This Week’s Mission:
“The Goal Kick” Challenge
For Parents & Families:
Sit down for 10 minutes this week and help your child write 3 small goals for the new school year. Not grades—habits or efforts. Post the goals somewhere visible (like the fridge, mirror, or bedroom door). Ask them how they’re doing on those goals once a week over dinner.
For Teachers & Classrooms:
Give students a mini goal-setting worksheet: “One thing I want to get better at,” “One way I’ll help others,” and “One thing I’ll try that’s new.” Hang them in the classroom or have a 2-minute sharing moment in small groups.
💬 Reflection of the Week
We don’t grow all at once. We grow one goal at a time—especially when someone believes in us.
What goals do your children see you working on right now?
🌟 From Master Chris Hong:
I ask all my new students to tell me one thing they want to improve this year—not just in Taekwondo, but in life. I always tell them:
“Even the strongest black belt started with one small goal—‘Try again tomorrow.’”
As school begins again, it’s a great time to revisit your child’s Tae Kwon Do journey.
Is there a goal they want to reach—like earning their next belt, showing more confidence, or mastering a new skill?
Encourage them to keep showing up.
Progress takes time—but it always shows.
